  1. Recognize ACS effectively and safely, with or without ST elevation, including the latest concepts in Occluded Myocardial Infarction (OMI).

The HEARTS ECG course teaches a systematic approach to ECG interpretation and evidence-based application to emergency medicine, in small group and highly interactive format.   1. Cibler les cas où il est pertinent d'installer un pigtail thoracique à l'urgence.

  2. Démontrer la technique d'installation d'un pigtail thoracique.

  3. Identifier les limites du pigtail thoracique

 Rhinopharyngolaryngoscopie

  1. Identifier la présence ou l’absence d’un corps étranger.

  2. Démontrer la présence et la sévérité de brûlures des voies aériennes supérieures.

  3. Évaluer la présence et le degré d’œdème dans les cas d’angioedème afin de déterminer le besoin d’intubation et ainsi mieux planifier.

  4. Reconnaître la présence d’une infection supraglottique (amygdalite linguale, épiglottite, supraglottite).​​

This workshop will consist of a combination of three very popular workshops from the annual AMUQ conferences: one on mechanical ventilation, one on thoracic pigtail insertion, and finally, one on rhinopharyngolaryngoscopy. The participants will rotate between each of the workshops, spending one hour on each. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Mechanical Ventilation​

  1. Recognize ventilatory curves on the monitor and the different parameters.

  2. Use the various settings and measurements of the ventilator.

  3. Select ventilator parameters according to different pathologies: severe hypoxemia, metabolic acidosis, bronchospasm, COPD.

Pigtail catheter for pleural drainage

  1. Identify cases where it is appropriate to install a pigtail chest tube in the emergency room.

  2. Demonstrate the technique for installing a pigtail chest tube.

  3. Identify the limitations of the pigtail chest tube.

 Rhinopharyngolaryngoscopy

  1. Identify the presence or absence of a foreign body.

  2. Demonstrate the presence and severity of upper airway burns.

  3. Assess the presence and degree of edema in cases of angioedema to determine the need for intubation and better plan the intervention.

  4. Recognize the presence of supraglottic infections (lingual tonsillitis, epiglottitis, supraglottitis).​​​

This practical workshop, hosted jointly by CAEP’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and IFEM’s Quality & Safety Specialty Interest Group, will provide you with the foundation and tools to successfully complete meaningful quality interventions in your emergency department. This “hands on” pre-course has the goal to improve your knowledge and skills regarding Geriatric Emergency Medicine, through a mix of small-group tabletop discussion and simulation with an expert faculty drawn from around the world.  We will give an overview of the basic principles of assessment and caring for older people in Emergency Settings.  The course is an introduction for those new to the topic and a refresher for those who wish to consolidate their knowledge.  Participants will receive practical tips which can be incorporated into their clinical practice as soon as they return to their own hospitals.

The PURE course is an innovative, one-day workshop focused on hands-on training in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for pediatric critical care. This immersive experience combines core application teaching with realistic simulation scenarios to enhance clinical skills.  Participants can apply their newly acquired skills in dynamic, high-stakes situations, reinforcing the critical role of ultrasound in pediatric emergency care. 2. Acquire knowledge of the differences in sonographic anatomy between pediatric and adult patients, focusing on physiological variations, image interpretation, and adaptations in scanning techniques.

Saving Lives Through Science:
A Global Emergency Medicine Trials Summit

This workshop plans to bring EM trialists from around the world together in person or virtually to discuss how their trial networks operate in their respective countries, present their success stories and lessons learned. Guest speakers with insight into global pandemic trials will be invited to speak about how global EM trial networks could work together to expand international collaboration and participation in clinical trials in EM.  These recommendations will be formatted for a future publication in the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine. All interested symposium participants will be invited to contribute to the future manuscript.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast the structural and operational characteristics of at least three different national or international emergency medicine trials networks, citing specific examples.

  2. After reviewing case studies of international emergency medicine trials networks, participants will be able to highlight the scientific impact of these networks and evaluate the key lessons learned in terms of their implications for future trial design and collaboration.

  3. Through expert panel discussions, participants will discuss potential strategies to strengthen partnerships between national and international emergency medicine trials networks, with the goal of enhancing preparedness for future pandemic trials.
