Dr. David Saint-Jacques earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Physics from Polytechnique Montréal, Canada (1993). He earned a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Cambridge University, UK (1998). He earned his M.D. from Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada (2005), and completed his family medicine residency at McGill University in Montreal, Canada (2007), where his training focused on first-line, isolated medical practice.

Dr. Victoria Brazil is an emergency physician, educator, simulation specialist and healthcare team coach. ​ She is Professor of Emergency Medicine and Medical Director of the Simulation Service at Gold Coast Health, and leads the Bond University Translational Simulation Collaborative. Victoria’s main interests are in connecting education with patient care - through translational simulation in healthcare, and in developing high performing healthcare teams. She has authored over 80 peer reviewed publications in health professions education, simulation and teamwork in healthcare. Victoria also writes for the International Clinician Educators Network blog and is Senior Editor at Advances in Simulation. Victoria is co-producer of Simulcast, a podcast about healthcare simulation.

Dr. Eveline Antoine Hitti
Dr. Eveline Hitti is Chair and Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. In her capacity as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Hitti has served as the ED Incident command the hospital since 2012, overseeing the ED preparedness and response to over 15 Mass Casualty Incidents during this period. She has also represented the Lebanese Society of Emergency Medicine on national initiatives for developing hospital disaster preparedness and response across Lebanon. Her scholarly work has focused on applying and developing evidence-based health management practices and mass casualty management with a focus on low-resource settings. Dr Hitti graduated with an M.D., MBA degree from Johns Hopkins University, where she also completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine

Dr. Ffion Davies
Dr. Ffion Davies works as a Consultant Emergency Physician at the University Hospitals of Leicester and Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Leicester. She is the Immediate Past President of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. IFEM is an umbrella organisation serving the Emergency Medicine professional societies of over 70 nations and regions. She is also the medical lead for The Children’s Air Ambulance charity: a UK national PICU/NICU helicopter retrieval and ECMO service. Dr. Saleh Fares
Dr. Saleh Fares is the Executive Director Emergency Preparedness & Response Center at Department of Health Abu Dhabi where he has also served as an advisor at the Undersecretary office and a deputy commander of Zayed Military Hospital. He has more than 21 years of experience in the healthcare sector including Zayed Military Hospital, McGill University teaching hospitals, University of Toronto and Harvard teaching hospitals. He is a Canadian and American Board certified in Emergency Medicine since 2007 and holds a prehospital care fellowship from the University of Toronto and Disaster Medicine fellowship. He holds a master and doctorate degree in public health / Healthcare management and policy from Johns Hopkins University / School of Public Health. In addition, Dr. Saleh Al-Ali has organized several local and international conferences in Emergency Medicine, prehospital care and Disaster Medicine. He is an active member of several committees in WHO, IFEM, Arab Board of Emergency Medicine and many others. In June 2024, Dr Saleh is officially appointed as the president of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine. Dr Lise Mumporeze is an emergency Medicine and Critical Care physician and a university lecturer. She was the head of the Emergency Department at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda and the Chair of Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy at University of Rwanda for 3 years then she joined a 3-year fellowship in Paediatric Intensive Care at Wolfson Medical Center in Israel where she currently is based. After completing the fellowship, she will return to Rwanda where she will continue her clinical and academic roles. As one of the pioneers in the field, she is mandated contribute to the growth and sustainability of paediatric emergency medicine and paediatric intensive care in her home country. She is interested in Paediatric acute medicine and post operative care of children with heart diseases. Her expertise as a Covid-19 focal point during the Covid 19 pandemic not only enriched her medical knowledge on the subject but opened her eyes on the public health aspect as well as surge management/improvisation in the practice of emergency medicine.

Dr. Olita Shilpakar
Dr. Olita Shilpakar, MD, DM EM, FRCP Edin, is an Assistant Professor and a Consultant Emergency Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal. She is one of the first female emergency physicians in the history of Nepal to be trained in Emergency Medicine with a Doctorate degree. She serves in the executive board of the Nepalese Society of Emergency Physicians (NSEP) which is a voting member of IFEM (International Federation for Emergency Medicine). She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. She is associated with the World Health Organization Nepal, the Department of Health Services and the Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal in numerous projects which includes a leading role as an expert in the development of the first ever National document on Standard Treatment Protocol (STP) of Emergency Health Services, National Patient Safety Strategic Action plan of Nepal and the National Guidelines on the management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). She is an American Heart Association (AHA) certified BLS, ACLS and PALS instructor and is an IFEM accredited BEC (Basic Emergency Care) Trainer. She has been leading numerous trainings related to emergency medicine and prehospital care being conducted by the Ministry of Health and Population, National Health Training Center, Health Emergency Operation Center and WHO.
Dr. Yenisey Cruz is an Emergency Medicine Physician at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, Belize, where she serves as the Head of the Accident and Emergency Department. She completed her specialty training at Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez in Mexico City. Additionally, she holds a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Care Facilities Administration. Her areas of interest include Medical Education, Disaster Medicine, and Global Emergency Medicine.

George Podgorny Lecture: Emergency Departments on an Aging Planet: What can Emergency Medicine offer?
Dr. Don Melady
Dr. Don Melady is an Emergency Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto; a scholar at the Schwartz-Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute; and a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. His particular interest, developed during his 38-year career, is excellent Emergency Department care of older people. He created a fellowship in Geriatric Emergency Medicine; and is the founding chair of the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Committee at both the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine. He has been involved in leadership roles with IFEM for nearly two decades and is the immediate past-chair of the Clinical Practice Committee. He has been involved in educational projects in Australia, Ethiopia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Chile, Costa Rica, and the United States. He is a core founding member of the grant-supported Geri ED Collaborative; and sits on the board of the Geriatric ED Accreditation program of American College of Emergency Physicians. He recently co-authored a book, Creating a Geriatric Emergency Department: A Practical Guide, published by Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Ian Stiell
Dr. Ian Stiell is a Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medicine and Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa, and Senior Scientist in The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. His research has focused on clinical decision rules and risk scales, as well as clinical trials in cardiac arrest and acute atrial fibrillation. Dr. Stiell has had more than 490 peer-reviewed publications and directs the international U Ottawa EM Research Fellowship. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Jeffrey Perry
Dr. Jeffrey Perry is a Full Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa. He serves as the Director and Senior Scientist of the Acute Care Research Program at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and is an attending physician in the Emergency Department at The Ottawa Hospital. Recognized internationally for his expertise in clinical decision rules, Dr. Perry has authored over 275 publications. He co-founded and served as the inaugural chair of the Canadian Network of Emergency Research (NCER), an initiative dedicated to mentoring new investigators and advancing large-scale, multicenter studies.

Dr. Megan Landes (MD, MSc, CCFP(EM)) is an attending staff doctor in the Emergency Department of the University Health Network (UHN), the University of Toronto’s largest downtown teaching hospital and during the past five years has worked clinically in Lesotho, Malawi and Ethiopia in both emergency medicine and HIV services. She is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a founding member and current Director of the Global Health Emergency Medicine (GHEM) Centre at the University of Toronto. Dr. Courtney Howard is an Emergency physician in Yellowknife, a Clinical Associate Professor, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and the past-president of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment. She researches the health impacts of wildfires, and is on the editorial advisory boards of the Lancet Planetary Health and the Journal of Climate Change and Health. She has done policy work for the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change and CODA Change (from the creators of SMACC), and is the Co-Chair of advocacy for the World Health Organization Civil Society Working Group on Climate Change and Health.
